Tourmaline in San Diego County is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf, working best when southwest swells pair with offshore winds from the northeast. Although summer offers the best conditions, the most reliable clean waves tend to occur in winter, particularly in November. The wave offers both lefts and rights, and when it's breaking well, it can draw a crowd. Surfers should stay alert to potential hazards in the water.
