๐Ÿ“ Local Knowledge

The Pit in Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo County is an exposed beach break with generally reliable but variable surf, offering both fast lefts and rights over a sandy bottom across all tide stages, with midday to high tide typically working best. Offshore winds from the east clean up northwest and west-northwest swells, producing crisp conditions appreciated by intermediate to advanced surfers. Despite its proximity to Morro Bay, the spot remains relatively uncrowded thanks to multiple peaks and a broad sandy shoreline. Surfers should watch out for occasional rip currents, kelp patches, and boat traffic. The most consistent clean waves hit during winterโ€”especially January and Februaryโ€”with solid surf also occurring in March and fun small summer sessions in July and August.
