📍 Local Knowledge
Ten Mile Beach in Mendocino County is a long, exposed stretch of coastline that offers multiple beach break peaks along its sandy shoreline. It faces west, picking up consistent swell from the northwest to west, with the best surf typically arriving in fall and winter. The waves are generally soft and peaky, making it a good spot for intermediate and beginner surfers when conditions are small. It works best with light offshore winds from the east and a mid to high tide. The bottom is primarily sand, with occasional scattered rocks in certain areas. Due to its length and remote feel, crowds are rare, and surfers can often find a peak to themselves. Hazards include rip currents, shifting sandbars, and cold water. Winter provides the most consistent and surfable conditions.
