Surf Beach in Santa Barbara is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf year-round, receiving both groundswells and windswells, with the best swell direction coming from the northwest. It works best with offshore winds from the southeast and around high tide, offering both left and right-hand waves. Optimal conditions typically occur in Winter, especially in January, when clean, rideable waves are most common. Surf Beach is rarely crowded, making it a quiet alternative to busier spots, but surfers should watch out for strong rips and the presence of sharks.
