Strands in North Orange County is a semi-exposed beach and reef-like break with a sand and rock bottom, offering punchy, fast waves with a mix of lefts and rightsβbest conditions typically arrive in summer and early fall. Offshore northeast winds clean up south and southwest swells, creating rippable walls and occasional barrels, especially on the inside sandbars. The spot works best during mid tide, balancing shape and power while reducing the risk of bottom contact. Strands can get crowded, particularly with shortboarders when the swell is up, but multiple peaks help spread out the lineup. Surfers should watch out for submerged rocks, strong rip currents, and shifting tides. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
