📍 Local Knowledge

Steamer Lane–Middle Peak in Santa Cruz is a reasonably exposed reef break with very consistent surf year-round, offering both left and right-hand waves. It performs best during spring, especially in April, when a northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the northwest. The break benefits from clean groundswells and some shelter from northwest winds, working optimally around a rising mid tide. It can get crowded when the surf is good, and submerged rocks present a hazard.
