📍 Local Knowledge

Staircase Beach (the northernmost stretch of Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu/North Los Angeles County) is an exposed beach break over a sand bottom, offering laid‑back, fun surf—best conditions typically arrive in winter and early spring. Offshore winds from the northeast help groom clean southwest, west‑northwest, and south swells, producing both left and right waves breaking across variable sandbars. The spot works best at high to rising tide and remains relatively uncrowded due to its secluded access via PCH trail. Surfers should watch out for shifting sandbars and occasional rocky sections near the bluff. The most consistent clean waves occur in winter—especially January and February.
