South Bird Rock in San Diego County is an exposed reef break with fairly consistent surf, best when southwest groundswells combine with offshore winds from the northeast. Summer provides the best conditions, but the most reliable clean waves are typically found in winter, particularly in November. The break offers both left and right reef breaks and is best around mid tide on a falling tide. It’s often crowded, and surfers should be cautious of rocks in the area.
