📍 Local Knowledge
Solimar Reef in Ventura is a fairly exposed beach and reef break with inconsistent surf and no clearly defined seasonal pattern. It performs best when a southwest swell aligns with offshore winds from the northeast, producing clean, well-formed waves. The spot is primarily driven by groundswells, and the right-hand reef break is notably better than the left. Conditions are most favorable around low tide. While Solimar can be quiet during smaller swells, it tends to get crowded when the surf is up. Surfers should be cautious of submerged rocks in the lineup. The best chances for consistent, clean waves are typically during winter, with January offering the most favorable conditions.
