📍 Local Knowledge

Shark Pit in San Francisco Marin is an exposed beach break with reasonably consistent surf. The best wind direction is from the east-southeast, with some shelter from north winds. The break is primarily influenced by groundswells, with the ideal swell direction coming from the west. It offers left-hand waves and is surfable at all stages of the tide. While it can get crowded at times, it remains a popular choice for surfers. Winter, particularly January, brings the most consistent clean waves with light offshore winds. Surfers should be cautious of sharks, rips, and rocks. Optimal conditions occur when a west swell aligns with easterly offshore winds.
