Schooner Gulch (Moat Creek) in Mendocino County is an exposed beach and reef break offering consistent surf, with ideal conditions in spring and summer. It favors southwest swells and northeast offshore winds, with some protection from northwest winds. The spot features both beach and reef breaks, producing left and right-handers, and works best on a rising mid-tide. It's rarely crowded but surfers should be cautious of rocks, rips, sharks, and localism. Clean, rideable waves are most consistent in winter, particularly in February.
