Sands in Santa Barbara is a fairly exposed beach and reef break with reliable surf year-round. It works best with offshore winds from the east-northeast and handles both groundswells and windswells equally, favoring a swell from the west. The break offers both left and right-hand waves and tends to be crowded. Surfers should watch out for rocks and rips. The best time for consistent clean waves is during Winter, particularly in January.
