📍 Local Knowledge

San Gregorio State Beach in San Mateo is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf, offering both lefts and rights across its sandy setup. The best surf conditions occur when groundswells from the southwest combine with offshore winds from the east. Although summer can bring good waves, winter—particularly January—typically delivers the most consistent clean conditions with rideable swells and favorable wind. Mid tide tends to offer the best performance, and the break remains mostly uncrowded. Surfers should be cautious of rip currents and potential shark encounters.
