📍 Local Knowledge

San Elijo State Beach in San Diego County is an exposed beach and reef break that works only occasionally. The best conditions occur in summer, with offshore winds from the east-northeast and clean groundswells from the west-southwest. The break offers both left and right-hand reef waves and is best around mid tide. When the surf is up, it tends to get crowded. Submerged rocks are a hazard. The most consistent clean waves are found during winter, especially in January.
