📍 Local Knowledge

San Buenaventura State Beach in Ventura is a fairly exposed beach break with reliable surf that works throughout the year. It performs best when a southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the northeast, producing clean, left-peeling waves. The break is mainly fueled by distant groundswells and is surfable across all tide stages. Despite its quality, the beach is rarely crowded, offering a more peaceful session compared to nearby spots. Surfers should remain cautious of strong rip currents, which are a known hazard. While summer may bring favorable conditions, the most consistent clean waves occur during winter, with January being the best month.
