Salmon Creek in Sonoma is an exposed beach break with very consistent surf, especially during winter. It works best with distant groundswells from the west-southwest and offshore winds from the east-southeast. The break offers both left and right-handers and is best surfed around mid tide when the tide is falling. While it can get crowded at times, it remains a favorite among local surfers. Winter, particularly January, provides the most reliable clean waves with light offshore winds. Surfers should be cautious of rips, rocks, localism, and sharks. Optimal conditions occur when a west-southwest swell aligns with east-southeast offshore winds.
