📍 Local Knowledge

Royal Palms State Beach in LA County is a sheltered reef and point break with inconsistent surf, though summer offers the optimum conditions for surfing. It works best with offshore winds from the northeast and tends to receive more groundswells than windswells, with the ideal swell direction from the southwest. The break features both left and right breaking reefs and is best surfed around low tide. When the surf is up, the spot can get quite busy. Surfers should be cautious of rocks and locals. The best conditions occur when a southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the northeast, with February being the prime month for consistent clean waves during winter.
