πŸ“ Local Knowledge

RAT Beach is a semi-exposed beach break over a sand bottom, offering soft, slow-peeling waves ideal for beginners and longboardersβ€”best conditions typically arrive in fall and winter. Offshore winds from the northeast clean up small to medium west and southwest swells, producing mellow lefts and rights over gently sloping sandbars. The spot is surfable during most tide stages, with mid to high tide often giving the best shape, and it remains lightly crowded due to its hidden access and limited parking. Surfers should watch out for rip currents, kelp beds, and occasional stingrays in warmer months. The most consistent clean waves occur in winter, especially January and February.
