📍 Local Knowledge

Princeton Jetty in San Mateo is an exposed beach and jetty break that usually has surf year-round, with both left and right-hand waves. It performs best with clean groundswells from the southwest and offshore winds from the northeast, with some natural shelter from northwest winds. The break is most reliable between tides, as high tide can push the waves too close to shore. Winter, especially January, provides the most consistent clean conditions. Unlike some nearby spots, Princeton Breakwater is often crowded. Surfers should watch out for rocks and sharks in the area.
