📍 Local Knowledge

Piedras Blancas in San Luis Obispo County is an exposed reef and point break with inconsistent surf, generally offering the best conditions in summer. Offshore winds from the east complement distant groundswells coming from the west-southwest, producing both left and right waves over the reef, adding variety and challenge. The spot is surfable at most tide stages and is usually uncrowded due to its remote location and rocky shoreline. Surfers should watch out for sharks, sharp rocks, and powerful rip currents. The most consistent clean waves usually occur during winter, especially in January.
