πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Newport Lower Jetties in North Orange County is a consistent and exposed jetty-adjacent beach break over a sand bottom, delivering punchy, fast waves that attract a mix of skill levelsβ€”best conditions typically arrive in summer and early fall. Offshore northeast winds groom south and southwest swells, creating peaky lefts and rights that wedge off the jetties and detonate on nearby sandbars. The spot handles a variety of tide stages but is most responsive during low to mid tide, when barrels and rampy shoulders are common. Crowds are typical, especially during strong southern swell events. Surfers should be cautious of rip currents, shifting sandbars, and stingrays. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
