Needle Rock in Mendocino County is a remote and rarely surfed point break located along the rugged Sinkyone Wilderness coast. It faces west and works best on long-period groundswells from the west or northwest, especially in winter, with offshore winds from the east or northeast. The wave breaks over a rock and reef bottom, producing fast, powerful sections that are best suited for experienced surfers. Access requires a challenging hike, and the spot is almost always uncrowded due to its isolation. Hazards include sharp rocks, strong currents, and potential wildlife encounters. Winter offers the most consistent conditions.
