📍 Local Knowledge

Mussel Shoals (aka Little Rincon) in Ventura County is an exposed point break over a mixed sand and boulder bottom, offering fast, hollow right‑hand waves with variable consistency—best conditions typically arrive in winter and spring. Offshore winds from the northeast help clean up west and northwest groundswells, producing quality rides that can stretch for up to 150 meters. The spot works best around low to mid tide and remains less crowded than its famous neighbor Rincon, though sharp rocks and tidal variation demand respect. Surfers should watch out for submerged boulders, kelp, and strong currents. The most consistent clean waves occur in winter—especially January and February—with solid swells continuing into March.
