๐Ÿ“ Local Knowledge

Morro Bay Harbor in San Luis Obispo County is an exposed beach and jetty-adjacent break with generally consistent but variable surf, offering its best conditions in the cooler months. Offshore winds from the east help clean up northwest and west-northwest swells, producing both left- and right-hand waves along the harbor entrance and adjacent sandspit. The spot works across most tide stages, with mid to high tide often preferred, and remains uncrowded thanks to multiple peaks and sandy bottom. Surfers should watch out for boat traffic, kelp, and occasional rip currents near the jetties. The most consistent clean waves occur during winterโ€”especially January and Februaryโ€”with peak surf extending into March and quieter but still good conditions in July.
