Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo is a fairly exposed beach break known for its very reliable surf, especially during autumn and winter. It performs best when west swells meet offshore winds from the east-southeast, with the area benefiting from some shelter against southerly winds. The beach break offers both left and right-hand waves and works well with consistent groundswells. Crowds are common when the waves are good. Hazards include strong rips, undertow, and occasional shark sightings. The best surfing conditions are typically found in winter, particularly in January.
