Mesa Lane in Santa Barbara County is an exposed beach and reef-adjacent break with generally variable but often fun surf, offering both lefts and rights over a mix of sandy bottom and scattered reef rocks. Offshore winds from the east to northeast help groom clean waves, especially when southwest and northwest swells roll in, adding variety and challenge. The spot works best around mid to high tide and remains relatively uncrowded thanks to multiple peaks and easy access via Mesa Lane. Surfers should watch out for shallow reef rocks, occasional rip currents, boat traffic, and marine life. The most consistent clean waves generally arrive in winter—especially January and February.
