MacKerricher is a remote, exposed point break that sees its best surf conditions during the fall and winter swell seasons. The spot primarily picks up west to northwest groundswells, producing fast-breaking, sometimes hollow waves over a **rock and reef bottom**. Ideal conditions occur with a mid-tide and light offshore winds from the east or northeast, which help clean up the swell and shape the waves. Surf is inconsistentโonly surfable during strong swellsโand the sharp reef makes it a destination only for experienced surfers. Hazards include submerged rocks, strong rip currents, cold water, and difficult access, and as a result, the lineup is almost always empty. Winter, especially between December and February, provides the best chance for clean, powerful surf conditions.
