📍 Local Knowledge

La Jolla Cove in San Diego County is a reasonably exposed reef and point break that usually has waves, with the best surf occurring in winter, especially in January. Ideal conditions are created when northwest swells combine with offshore winds from the southeast. The spot features both a left-hand reef break and a left-hand point break, and it works best around mid tide when the tide is falling. It can get crowded when it's on, and surfers should be mindful of rips and localism.
