It performs best around mid tide with light offshore winds from the east or northeast and tends to be most consistent from fall through early spring when northwest swells are strongest. The bottom is primarily sand, with shallow sandbars that can cause waves to jack up quickly. The beach is typically uncrowded, and hazards include rip currents, cold water, and shifting sandbars.
