Huntington State Beach in North Orange County is an exposed beach break over a sand bottom, delivering long, powerful walls and punchy peaks—best conditions typically arrive in summer and early fall. Offshore winds from the northeast groom long-period south and southwest swells, producing consistent lefts and rights across multiple shifting sandbars. The spot works best during low to mid tide, with early mornings offering the cleanest conditions. It’s usually less crowded than the pier but can still draw a crowd during good swell windows. Surfers should watch out for rip currents, backwash, and stingrays. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
