πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Huntington Beach Pier, Southside in North Orange County is a highly consistent and exposed beach break over a sand bottom, offering fast, powerful waves that cater to intermediate and advanced surfersβ€”best conditions typically arrive in summer and early fall. Offshore northeast winds groom south and southwest swells, producing wedgy peaks and hollow sections that break off the pier and across nearby sandbars, with both lefts and rights on offer. The spot works best during mid to high tide, with low tide often causing dumpy closeouts. It’s a popular and heavily crowded lineup, especially during major swell events and surf contests. Surfers should watch out for strong rip currents, pier pilings, and heavy localism. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
