📍 Local Knowledge

Horseshoe in San Diego County is an exposed reef break that offers reasonably consistent surf throughout the year, with winter providing the most reliable conditions. It performs best when a west swell meets offshore winds from the east, producing clean waves that break both left and right. The spot is best surfed around a rising mid tide and can draw a crowd when it's working well. While not the most popular break in the area, it still sees its share of local traffic. Hazards include rips, submerged rocks, and shifting currents. January is typically the prime month for clean, rideable waves.
