📍 Local Knowledge

Hobson County Park in Ventura County is an exposed reef break with dependable surf—best conditions typically arrive in winter and early spring. Offshore winds from the east-northeast groom clean west-northwest and southwest groundswells, producing both left and right waves that peel over a mixed cobblestone and sand bottom, adding variety to the lineup. The spot works at all tide stages, though low to mid tide tends to offer the best shape, and it remains moderately popular thanks to multiple peaks and its scenic location. Surfers should watch out for submerged boulders, strong rip currents, and occasional kelp. The most consistent clean waves occur during winter—especially in January—with solid surf extending through March and occasional backup swells into early spring.
