📍 Local Knowledge

Haskell’s Beach in Santa Barbara County is an exposed beach break with generally inconsistent, mostly small surf—best conditions usually arrive during summer wind swells or winter northwest groundswells. Early-morning offshore winds from the southeast help clean the peaks, offering both lefts and rights across shifting sandbars. The spot works across most tide stages—high tide tends to be ideal—and stays relatively uncrowded given its proximity to Bacara Resort. Surfers should watch out for rip currents, occasional kelp, boat traffic, and the ever-present risk of sharks. The most consistent clean waves typically occur in winter, especially January and February, with July and August offering smaller but surfable summer conditions.
