📍 Local Knowledge

Hammond's in Santa Barbara is a sheltered reef break known for its consistent surf. It mainly receives distant groundswells, with the ideal swell direction coming from the west. The right-hand reef break is generally better than the left. Surf is best around mid tide. When the waves are up, the spot tends to get crowded. Surfers should be aware of hazards such as rocks, private property, and localism. The best conditions occur when a west swell combines with offshore winds from the north. Winter, especially January, offers the most consistent clean, rideable waves at Hammonds Reef.
