📍 Local Knowledge

Government Point in Santa Barbara is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that offers reasonably consistent surf throughout the year, with ideal conditions when a Southwest swell aligns with offshore winds from the north. It receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, and features both beach and reef setups. The best surf typically occurs during Summer, especially in September, when clean, rideable waves are most common. Government Point is rarely crowded, offering a more secluded experience, but surfers should be cautious of rips and rocks.
