📍 Local Knowledge
Fort Point in San Francisco Marin is a sheltered beach and reef break that works intermittently, with winter being the best time to surf. It performs best with offshore winds from the south and distant groundswells from the northwest. The break is primarily a left-hand reef and is most reliable around low tide when the tide is rising. While it offers high-quality waves, it is often crowded when conditions are favorable. Surfers should be cautious of rips, rocks, localism, and sharks. Winter, especially January, provides the most consistent clean waves with light offshore winds. Optimal surf conditions occur when a northwest swell aligns with southerly offshore winds.
