📍 Local Knowledge

Fern Canyon Beach in Humboldt County is an exposed beach break with inconsistent surf, generally offering the best conditions in summer. Offshore winds from the east complement distant groundswells coming from the west-southwest, producing both left and right waves along the sandbars, adding variety. The spot is surfable at all tide stages and rarely crowded due to its remote access and challenging terrain. Surfers should watch out for rocks, strong rip currents, and shifting sandbars near the creek mouth. The most consistent clean waves usually occur during winter, especially in January.
