📍 Local Knowledge

Drakes Estero in San Francisco Marin is an exposed beach and deltamouth break with fairly consistent surf. Spring and summer provide the best conditions, with offshore winds from the north and some shelter from north winds. The surf here primarily comes from groundswells, and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. The waves offer both left and right-hand breaks, and the surf is good at all stages of the tide. While it can get crowded, especially when conditions are favorable, it remains a popular spot for surfers. Winter, particularly February, brings the most consistent clean waves with light offshore winds. Surfers should be cautious of sharks, rips, and rocks. Optimal conditions occur when a southwest swell aligns with northerly offshore winds.
