📍 Local Knowledge

Drakes Bay in Marin County is an exposed sandbar break that doesn't work very often, but when it does, it offers quality surf. Spring and summer are the best seasons, with offshore winds from the north providing the most favorable conditions, although there is some shelter from west-northwest winds. The spot tends to receive distant groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the south-southwest. It remains rarely crowded, making it a great option for those seeking a quieter surf session. Summer, particularly August, offers the most consistent clean waves with light offshore winds. Surfers should be cautious of sharks in the area. Optimal conditions occur when a south-southwest swell aligns with northerly offshore winds.
