College Cove in Humboldt County is a semi-exposed beach break tucked within Trinidad State Beach, offering occasional surf with limited consistency. It picks up west to northwest swells but is heavily affected by surrounding headlands, which can block swell energy and wind. The cove is best during small to moderate groundswells and light offshore winds from the east or southeast. The break is typically a mix of short, punchy peaks with both lefts and rights. It works best on a mid tide. The bottom is mostly sand with scattered rocks, and the coveβs shape can cause unpredictable currents and backwash. Itβs usually uncrowded due to its remote access and inconsistent surf. Hazards include strong rip currents, submerged rocks, and sudden wave surges near the cliffs. Fall and winter offer the best chances for clean, rideable waves.
