📍 Local Knowledge

Capitola Rivermouth in Santa Cruz is a sheltered beach and jetty break with reasonably consistent surf that works year-round. It performs best with a south-southwest swell and offshore winds from the northeast, typically offering clean conditions during winter, especially in January. The spot picks up distant groundswells and works best around low tide, producing both left and right-hand waves. While it can get crowded when the surf is up, surfers should be aware of hazardous rip currents.
