📍 Local Knowledge

Asilomar in Monterey is an exposed beach and reef break with consistent surf year-round, favoring offshore winds from the southeast. It receives both local windswells and distant groundswells, primarily from the west. The spot features both left and right-hand waves at the beach break, as well as left and right reef breaks offshore, performing well at all tide stages. When conditions are good, it can get quite busy, and surfers should be cautious of rocks and sharks. Optimal conditions occur when a west swell aligns with southeast offshore winds, with the most consistent clean waves typically during winter, especially in January.
