Agate Street in North Orange County is a semi-exposed reef and beach break over a sand and rock bottom, offering short, punchy waves with occasional hollow sectionsβbest conditions typically arrive in summer and early fall. Offshore northeast winds clean up south and southwest swells, generating tight takeoff zones with fast, left-breaking waves that reel over shallow reef patches. The spot works best at mid to high tide, as lower tides expose rocks and reduce rideability. Agate tends to stay uncrowded due to limited parking and a narrow window of ideal conditions. Surfers should be cautious of submerged rocks, backwash, and strong rip currents. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
