📍 Local Knowledge

South Chesterman Beach on Vancouver Island is a fairly exposed beach break known for its reliable surf, especially during the winter months. It works best with offshore winds from the northeast and receives some shelter from north-northwest winds. The break handles both wind and groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the west, and offers a balance of left- and right-hand waves. It is surfable at all stages of the tide and is typically uncrowded, even when conditions are good. Optimal surf occurs when a west swell pairs with NE offshore winds, with February delivering the most consistent clean waves.
