Florencia Bay on Vancouver Island is a fairly exposed beach break that offers consistently rideable surf, especially during winter months. It performs best with offshore winds from the northeast and gets some natural shelter from stronger north winds. The break primarily receives groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the west, and offers a mix of left- and right-hand waves. The surf quality is tide-independent, maintaining shape across all tide levels. Even when it’s working, crowds are rare, though surfers should watch for rocks in the lineup. Optimal conditions occur when a WNW swell aligns with NE offshore winds, with January providing the most consistent clean surf.
