Cox Bay on Vancouver Island is an exposed beach and point break known for its consistently good surf, especially during the winter months. It works best with offshore winds from the northeast and benefits from some natural shelter from southerly winds. The break primarily picks up groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the west, and delivers a mix of left- and right-hand waves. Itβs surfable at all stages of the tide and can be crowded on good days. While generally safe, surfers should remain alert to typical hazards such as strong currents and shifting sandbars. Optimal conditions occur when a west swell aligns with easterly winds, with January offering the most reliable windows for clean, rideable waves.
