La Gamelle

La Gamelle is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong west or northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the south or southeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of grounded Atlantic swells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline and rocky patches that can become quite punchy and hollow when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is a well-regarded spot in the Finistère region, the lineup can become busy when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and submerged rocks that become more prominent at lower tides. The best conditions reported for surf at La Gamelle occur when a West-northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South-southeast.
