📍 Local Knowledge

Kaolin in Brittany is an exposed reef break that only works when conditions are just right. Summer in particular tends to be flat. The best wind direction is from the northeast. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. There is a right hand reef break. Best around low tide. Sometimes crowded. Beware of rocks and rips. The best conditions reported for surf at Kaolins occur when a Southwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast. The best time of year for surfing Kaolins with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is during Spring and most often the month of March.
