π Local Knowledge
Punta Hughes in Baja Sur is an exposed point break that offers reasonably consistent surf, mainly powered by distant groundswells with the ideal swell direction coming from the southwest. The break works best with offshore winds from the northeast, with the best conditions reported when a southwest swell combines with a northeast offshore wind to produce clean, well-shaped waves. The spot is rarely crowded, but surfers should take care around rocky sections in the lineup. The most consistent clean and rideable waves typically occur during winter, especially in September.
